New Frontier

Post pandemic, we find it is safer to make contactless transactions, meet virtually and deliver items.  Keeping a safe distance is one prerequisite to preventing Covid19.

In view of the above, mobile devices have become necessary to conduct the above mentioned activities and make purchases in our daily lives. We can do so much more with smartphones and mobile tablets now. Some of the tasks are as follow:

  1. Sending emails and messages

  2. Video calls

  3. Virtual meetings (e.g. Zoom, Google Meet)

  4. E-wallet payments (to make purchases), sending monies, bill payments

  5. Track tasks to do (i.e. Reminders, To-do list, etc.)

  6. Track appointments (i.e. Apple Calendar, Google calendar, Outlook calendar)

  7. Finding directions to locations (i.e. Google map, Waze)

The data in our smartphones are protected by the devices’ internal security system.  We can add protection by subscribing to Kasperzsky’s VPN and anti-virus software, such as Norton and Kaspersky.  There is also a “kill switch” in some of the applications and phones to erase data should the device get lost or stolen.

There is also 2FA (two factor authentication) or MFA (multi-factor authentication) in some applications for added protection when a person conducts transactions or make purchases online.

With security and applications in place, technology has made our lives more convenient and fast. No more hassle of commuting or carrying cash when going out to do our errands.  We can order items and pick them up from the stores later.

Every day, we are able to plan our routines and tasks personally and professionally. Personal routines can be meal times, types of meals, exercise, appointments with family and friends, sleep time, vacation and any other routines.

Professionally, we can plan daily, monthly and yearly projects, assignments and appointments with clients (existing or potential). We can also track expenditure and income and plan a budget annually.

We can conduct business, meetings and sell our products online. Payments from customers are ensured, similar to cash on delivery (COD).  Marketing is now digitalised and we can reach out to more potential customers.

We can also work on our projects and assignments and track their progress until completion.  This is conducive as many of us are now either working from home, hybrid (working at home and in the office) and working during travel (nomadic).

We are in the new normal and technology has become the centre of our lives.  There is even a smart home, i.e. window curtains, lights and TV are switched on and off via a smart home kit application.

We can still do all the above mentioned manually but post-pandemic, we have become accustomed to using technology to perform our routines.

Welcome to the new normal!
